Many women want modern styled engagement rings that are fashionable and timeless. Diamonds are very traditional for engagement rings of course, but more stones are being incorporated to update the look of the diamond.

Building A Custom Engagement Ring

Many companies allow couples to build a custom engagement ring. A modern engagement ring trend is for the groom to either custom chooses the design for his bride to be or to propose with the empty band alone and take the bride to be with him to custom design the ring.

Modern engagement rings will use cuts that accentuate the brilliance of the diamond; some of these cuts include princess cuts, emerald cuts, or round cuts. Each of these will cut the tops at an angle to allow more light to sparkle throughout the stone.

Choosing complimenting shapes and sizes of stones can also make a very modern engagement ring look; a round center stone with a small triangle cut emerald on each side could look like a white rose for example.

Mixing shapes for a modern art type of feel or revitalizing Art Deco designs can make a modern engagement ring stand apart from the crowd while maintaining a timeless feel. Art Deco rings will tend to have bold designs with clean lines while mixing shapes could incorporate a two or three stones or a pave setting.
