The Controversy Surrounding the Men’s Wedding Ring
If there is one thing that a woman who dreams of being married wants to symbolize her status as the bride of her loved one, it is a wedding ring. However, when it comes to men, the idea of a men’s wedding ring is something that some men don’t mind, while others try to stay away from.
The Evolution of the Men’s Wedding Ring
Actually, in Western society, the idea of a men’s wedding ring is relatively new. While the symbolic beauty of a women’s wedding ring has been around for hundreds of years, many men have shunned the idea of wearing any kind of jewelry, no matter how special it is.
In fact, the idea of a men’s wedding ring was recent enough to have only really become a more accepted idea amongst men during World War II. It was during that time that a men’s wedding ring became a symbol of comfort for soldiers, who would look at it and think of the beloved wife that was waiting at home for them.
Sometimes, the idea of a men’s wedding ring is rather uncomfortable for a man because it is a hit to their masculinity, and the idea that “real men” do not wear jewelry. Yet another reason is because, no matter how much they love their wife, having to wear a symbol of commitment (something many men have to adjust to) is what makes them feel rather uncomfortable.
Along the same lines of commitment, some men heave their trepidations about wearing a men’s wedding ring simply because they have never worn jewelry before. The idea of having to wear this foreign object forever raises a bunch of questions in the male mind: What if it hurts my finger? What if I can’t get it off?
This is especially a concern among men who are in certain professions in which wearing a men’s wedding ring would actually be hazardous. For example, if a man is a carpenter and works with his hands a lot, wearing a wedding ring while working would indeed hurt his finger.
In these situations, for safety reasons men should simply take their ring off while working so that his finger and the ring remain intact. So, if you are a man who has trepidations about wearing a wedding ring, just remember that love is about making sacrifices, and really, how much of a sacrifice is it to wear a men’s wedding ring?
